Why would anyone care to read your work? Academic writing is successful when it answers the “So What” question by providing answers to the following questions:

  1. What is the issue?
  2. What are the specific questions surrounding the issue?
  3. What is the context and background of the issue?
  4. Why does the issue matter?
  5. Why is it a problem?
  6. Why is it important to solve it?
  7. Where are you going to look for answers?
  8. Why are you going to look there?
  9. Why should the reader care?
